Eleanor Ahern Nichols

Tybee Island, Mrs. Eleanor Ahern Nichols, 83, entered into eternal rest Sunday, December 7, 2008 after a brief illness at Memorial University Medical Center.
Born and raised in Natick, MA, Lee was the loving wife of her surviving husband Richard A. Nichols for 57 years. She was a graduate of Natick High School in Natick, MA and Westbrook College of Maine, and then completed nursing school at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, MA. She was employed there as a nurse and later at Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick, MA for 35 years. Lee wintered on Tybee Island, GA for 20 years where she was an active member of the Optimist Club and the Monday Card Club. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her many Tybee Island friends as well as her family. Lee was the daughter of the late Charles Ahern and Helena Coleman of Natick, MA.
She is survived by her loving husband Dick and her children Col. Richard Nichols, Jr. currently stationed at Fort Jackson, SC and Marilyn Barrington and her husband, James of Carver, MA; two grandchildren, Sara and Matthew Barrington; brother, Charles Ahern of Virginia, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 9 with a Christian Wake Service at 5:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel. A memorial service at John Everett and Sons Funeral Home in Natick, MA will follow at a later date.
The family has suggested that remembrances be made in Eleanor's memory to the Neuro Fund, St. Joseph's Foundation, 5353 Reynolds St., Savannah, GA 31405.
